    He was considered lazy as a prospect.
    He was inconsistent in his first couple Major League seasons.
    The Dodgers thought he was a defensive liability, which led to his trade.
    He has a tendency to strike out frequently.
    He was considered a failed prospect by baseball pundits, despite the fact he wasn't fairly given a chance to prove himself at the Major League level.

    He established himself as a power hitter in the American League.
    He turned down more money from other teams to stay with the White Sox.
    He is involved with numerous charities in the Chicago area.
    He was a member of the White Sox team that won their first World Series title in 88 years (2005).
    He successfully replaced Frank Thomas as the team's everyday first baseman.
