Why he might be annoying:

He is a one hit wonder.
He played with the surf-rock group Sentinels, then with the Strangers, and finally Big Tree before going solo in 1967.
His only hit was a self described 'throw away song hastily written.'
His only other Top 40 tune, 'Can I Get a Witness,' stalled at #39.
He was never Top 40 friendly as most his songs were album oriented.
As a king of originality, he titled his 5th album 'Fifth.'
He signed with Columbia records in 1973, garnered no hits, was dropped by the label soon after and retired from music by the end of the decade.
Not mincing words, his website has a place where you can purchase merchandise entitled 'Buy Shit.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He is a multi-instrumentalist (Hammond organ, piano, guitar, bass) and recorded music on his own in his home built studio.
As a session musician he jammed with Jimi Hendrix.
After moving to San Francisco in the late '60s, he developed a huge cult following.
By the early '70s he was making $20,000 per concert.
'Do You Know What I Mean?' reached #6 on Billboard's Singles chart and became a million seller.
After a trip to New Orleans, he invented a seafood dish that eventually led to him opening a string of successful restaurants, named Killer Shrip, in Southern California.
A 2002 motorcycle accident left his leg broken in five places and him flat on his back for eight weeks.
During his recovery he got a severe case of the hiccups to the point of pain, but discovered a home remedy for them - gobbling down Popsicles.
