    (September 23, 1838-June 9, 1927)
    Born in Homer, Ohio
Birth name was Victoria California Claflin
Founded the newspaper 'Woodhull and Claflin's Weekly' (1870)
    Advocate for female suffrage
Ran for president as candidate of the Equal Rights Party (1872)
She married Dr. Channing Woodhull when he was 28 and she was 15.
She made a small fortune as a 'magnetic healer.'
She published the first American edition of Karl Marx's 'Communist Manifesto.'
Her newspaper advocated free love, licensed prostitution, spiritualism and vegetarianism.
She clashed with fellow feminist Susan B. Anthony.
Although she was nominated for president by the Equal Rights Party, she was a year younger than the Constitutionally mandated minimum age of 35.
After publishing an account of an affair between Rev. Henry Ward Beecher and one of his parishioners, she was arrested for sending obscene material through the mail (1872).
Her first husband was a womanizing alcoholic who could not support their family.
She and her sister Tennessee became the first successful female brokers on Wall Street.
She argued that since the 14th and 15th amendments gave voting rights to all US citizens, women already could vote, they just had to exercise their right.
She was the first woman nominated for the presidency.
She exposed Rev. Beecher's affair to illustrate the sexual double standard between men and women (and, on a pettier level, because she believed he had been behind stories attacking her character during her presidential campaign).
