The Resume
(April 27, 1964- )
Born in Eastbourne, England, United Kingdom
Weather forecaster for the BBC (1974-2004)
Wrote 'Storm Force: Britain's Wildest Weather' (2007)
Why he might be annoying
He wore ties with a fish motif.
He was named 'Worst Dressed Man on TV' in Britain.
He famously announced, 'Earlier on today, apparently, a woman rang the BBC and said she heard there was hurricane on the way. Well, if you're watching, don't worry, there isn't.' (October 15, 1987)
That evening, the worst storm to hit England since 1703 killed 19 and caused over $4 billion in damages.
Why he might not be annoying
The year after being named 'Worst Dressed,' he was named 'Best Dressed Man on TV.'
He said that his 'hurricane' comments had nothing to do with England and were referring to a preceding news story about Hurricane Floyd in the Caribbean.
He had predicted high winds and told viewers to 'batten down the hatches.'
He said if had been given a penny for every mention of that forecast, he would be a millionaire.
On retiring, he said, 'I won't miss getting up at four in the morning, or all night shifts, but I will miss doing a worthwhile job that can often save lives.'
