Killed Heather Hyer, injured 35 additional people
Found guilty of first degree murder, hit and run, and eight counts of malicious wounding (December 7, 2018)
Why he might be annoying
Classmates reported that he drew swastikas and talked about ‘loving Hitler’ before reaching high school.
He was treated for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
He repeatedly threatened his mother, a paraplegic in a wheelchair, including spitting in her face, pulling a knife on her, and slapping her upside the head.
He joined the Army, but was discharged in four months for ‘failure to meet training standards.’(2015)
On his way to Charlottesville, he sent his mother a picture of Adolf Hitler and a threatening text message.
He backed up a block to get room to accelerate before driving into the crowd.
After the initial impact, he drove over additional pedestrians while backing up.
Why he might not be annoying
His father died in a car crash five months before Fields’ birth.
His high school history teacher called him ‘a very bright kid, but very misguided.’
According to the arresting officer, he appeared shocked and started to cry when he was told someone had died.
Heyer’s mother said she did not want people to hate Fields.
