Why he might be annoying:

He had a severe stroke which took him out of public life (1995).
Though he was recognized as the leader, it was really Crown Prince Abdullah that makes most of the decisions.
For some he was a figurehead of corruption and excess in the royal family.
He allowed U.S. forces to be stationed in his country, inspiring bin Laden to attack America.
The liberals and the conservatives both are unsatisfied with the way he ruled.
He pledged to 'strike with an iron fist' at terrorists after a bombing. This iron fist was never seen.
He left his country for months at a time.
He did not attend his son's funeral.

Why he might not be annoying:

He attended the opening session of the United Nations (1945).
He assumed power as a crown prince after King Khalid was unable to perform his duties.
He kept his country in order.
He stayed out of the picture most of the time.
