Her name may be derived from the Sanskrit word for time

Being the goddess of death and destruction is annoying all by itself.
She's either black or blue and has either seven or ten arms, usually with a weapon in each hand depending on who's drawing her.
She also has fangs and wears a necklace made of skulls.
None of these are good looks.
During one tempter tantrum, she (temporarily) killed her mother's husband, the god Shiva, and danced on his body. Artistic portrayals of this usually show Shiva with an erection which makes for some interesting Freudian symbolism.
She was the patron of the Thugs who went around strangling people until the British hanged them all.

When she and Shiva are on good terms, they dance with each other, causing the earth to shake along with them.
She's the goddess to turn to for help with epidemics and natural disasters.
She's supposed to be a heck of a fighter in battle.
She once killed a demon whose blood turned into more demons when it was spilled by drinking all of his blood.
Calcutta (Kali's steps) was named after her.
Being the goddess of fertility is a very cool thing to be.
