When young, he complained that Japanese royals were like robots.
His power is largely symbolic.
Why he might not be annoying
As a child he experienced the firebombing of Tokyo during World War Two.
He was the first Japanese royal to marry a commoner, Michiko Shoda.
He has tried to bring the Japanese royal family closer to the general public.

Like his father, he is an accomplished marine biologist (and even has a fish named after him, Exyrias akihito).
