    He received a 12 game suspension (1989) for slashing Chris Chelios and hitting him with his blocker.
    He was injury prone.

    He was the first goalie in NHL history to score a goal, which he did twice.
    Wayne Gretzky called him the best goalie he'd ever played against.
    He was a fan favorite and exciting to watch.
    He was the recipient of the NY Ranger Fans' chant 'Drive a Porsche Hextall,' because his predecessor Pelle Lindebergh died while driving his Porsche.
