    (May 12, 1942- )
    Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
    American science fiction author
Most well known for novella 'Enemy Mine' which was made into a movie starring Lou Gossett Jr and Dennis Quaid
Author of the 'Circus World,' 'Infinity Hold' and 'Jaggers & Shad' series
'Enemy Mine' is his only work to be filmed and didn't do particularly well at the box office.
    He lives in Maine.
He sold his printing company to become a writer before he ever sold a story and admits he didn't know how to write or what he wanted to write.
When asked why he wanted to become a writer he said, 'I've never had a very good grasp on reality and I have always been an incredibly convincing liar. It was either fiction writing or politics.'
He wrote novelizations of the 'Alien Nation' TV series.
In 1980, his novella 'Enemy Mine' won him a Hugo, a Nebula, and a John W. Campbell award in the same year. The first time, and as of 2010 the only time, that has happened.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965.
    He has an excellent website.
In his first full year (1979) as a writer, he sold three novels.
His 'St. Mary's Blues' is the true story of his time in rehab for alcohol and prescription drug abuse.
He writes books, holds seminars & workshops, and teaches university courses on how to write science fiction.
He likes woodworking, is a bit of an outdoorsman and particularly enjoys skiing.
