Fought in the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (1797)
Captured several ships in the Battle of St. Vincent (1798)
Promoted to Vice Admiral
Commander, battleship 'Victory' (1804)
Killed in action at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805)
His fleet, outnumbered 27 to 33, captured 20 enemy ships and lost none
Last words were 'Now I am satisfied. Thank God, I have done my duty.'

Why he might be annoying:

He lost his right eye at Calvi and his right arm at Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
He was killed in the battle he is best remembered for winning.
He had an illegitimate child in Naples.
The first ship he served on was commanded by his uncle.
He seized four American merchant vessels and was subsequently sued for 40,000 pounds (he won in the end, but was forced to hole up in his frigate to avoid interim imprisonment).

Why he might not be annoying:

His subordinate officers regarded him as a close friend.
When he saw fit, he disregarded the orders of his superiors, sometimes scoring major victories.
He used innovative tactics.
His defeat of the French and Spanish at Trafalgar contributed to the rise of the British Empire.
He lived long enough for his aides to tell him that the battle was a decisive victory.
His mother died when he was nine.
