Directed 'Cronaca di un amore' (1950), 'Le Amiche' (1955), 'L'Avventura' (1960), 'La Notte' (1961), 'L'Eclisse' (1962), 'Blowup' (1966), 'Zabriskie Point' (1970), 'The Passenger' (1975) and 'Al di là nuvole' (co-directed with Wim Wenders, 1995)

Why he might be annoying:

He wrote for a fascist cinema magazine in 1940 (but left after a few months).
When he was making a documentary at an insane asylum, the camera lights gave the patients convulsions.
His slow moving, confusing storylines frustrate many viewers.
Some interviewers found him remote and cold.
Except for 'Blowup,' his English language films were not as well received as his Italian ones.
Pauline Kael criticized him in an essay called 'The-Come-Dressed-As-The-Sick-Soul-Of-Europe-Party.'

Why he might not be annoying:

The German army destroyed most of his first film, 'Gente del Pol,' in 1943.
'L'Avventura,' mocked by the audience at Cannes, is now considered a key twentieth century film.
His treatment of modern alienation was widely praised and imitated.
He was not afraid to defy audience expectations.
He was an excellent tennis player.
His documentary 'Chung Kuo-Cina' (1972) criticized the Cultural Revolution and angered the Chinese government.
He had a stroke in 1985 that left him unable to work for years.
He died on the same day as Ingmar Bergman.
