    Humorist and satirist
    Wrote over 1200 short stories
    Wrote the unfinished novel 'The Good Soldier Svejik' (4 volumes of a planned 6 were completed)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was fired from several jobs for heavy drinking.
    He was arrested repeatedly for vandalism and spent a month in jail for assaulting a police officer.
    He spent time in a mental hospital after trying to throw himself off a bridge. (He may have been faking jumping off the bridge as part of practical joke mocking the death of a Czech saint.)
    He married his second wife without divorcing his first.
    During the Russian Revolution, he joined the Red Army, becoming an army unit commissar.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was frequently harassed by the police after he became the editor of an anarchist newspaper.
    'The Good Soldier Svejik' was banned in Nazi Germany.
    Joseph Heller said that if he had not read 'The Good Soldier Svejik,' he never would have written 'Catch-22.'
