He was fired by the Cubs after one season.
Many baseball pundits felt he got forced out by the Cubs upper management after Joe Maddon became available.
Despite making his playing debut in 1986, he did not return to the major leagues until the 1993 expansion.
He was ejected seven times during his first season as the White Sox manager.
Some baseball pundits felt his managerial style is too conservative.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is the second person in the history of Major League Baseball to serve as the manager for both Chicago teams.
Despite getting unceremoniously fired by the Cubs, they gave him a World Series ring as a result of his contributions to the team.
He managed the Mexican national team at the World Baseball Classic (2013).
He was a member of the inaugural Marlins roster (1993).
He was nicknamed 'The Secret Weapon' during his tenure with the Marlins as a result of his versatility and knack for excelling in pinch hitting situations.
