The Resume

    (April 24, 1940-December 28, 2017)
    Born in Louisville, Kentucky
    Based in Santa Barbara, California
Author of the Kinsey Millhone mystery series (1982– )
Screenwriter for ‘Walking Through the Fire,’ ‘Sex and the Single Parent,’ ‘Mark, I Love You,’ ‘Nurse’ and Agatha Christie adaptations of ‘Caribbean Mystery’ and ‘Sparkling Cyanide’

Why she might be annoying:

She is the daughter of Presbyterians.
Her signature mysteries are based on the alphabet (‘G is for Gumshoe,’ ‘L is for Lawless,’ ‘M is for Malice,’ ‘R is for Ricochet,’ et al), all set within a time frame of five years.
She went through a lengthy divorce and custody battle with her husband, to the point where she would often imagine ways to murder or dismember or paralyze him.
In a 1996 interview (recorded on her official site), she admitted to the possibility of being unable to go through the entire alphabet.
One of her granddaughters was named Kinsey.

Why she might not be annoying:

Fortunately, she decided writing tools were better weapons than firearms or a blade.
She worked all over the medical field — clerk, cashier, secretary to a general practitioner.
Her inspiration for alphabetical titles came from mystery titles that referenced particular themes.
Unlike her signature character – who hates nature and loves junk food – she is a gardening and culinary enthusiast.
She made it perfectly clear – especially to her two children – that her novels were not to become screenplays, ever.
Her signature character was given an actual birth date (May 5, 1950).
