He was arrested for assaulting a flight attendant, being drunk on an aircraft and damaging British Airways property (April 2001).
According to the report, he drank about fifteen glasses of wine and begged for more. When the flight attendant refused, he took his tie off and choked her with it. Then after getting a 'yellow card' warning from the captain, he took the card and ripped it up. He also staggered around the plane, got stuck between the seats and dumped yogurt on himself and a crew member.

He's a member of R.E.M., one of the most influential and important bands around.
At the court case, Bono gave a character witness testimony, claiming that Peter is 'A committed family man who only drank in moderation.'
He was cleared of all air rage charges and was found innocent of all charges.
He has contributed to other artists' albums, including Pete Yorn, The Indigo Girls, Liz Phair and The Replacements.
When he worked at a record store, he met Michael Stipe and they shared a love in the same music which made them later become roommates, bandmates and good friends.
