Why he might be annoying
He had a 17 second lead over the second place driver at the moment of his fatal crash.
He was a calm and quiet guy.
In his second Indy 500 (1952) he led 150 laps, but he failed to finish the race.
He was the second driver to die at Indianapolis after winning the race the year before.
His grandson, Bill Vukovich III, also died in a fatal racing accident
Why he might not be annoying
He led over 70% of the laps he raced at Indianapolis.
He is the only driver to lead the most laps in three straight Indy 500s.
Vukovich had a car strong enough that he could have won four straight Indy 500s.
Several drivers of his generation have referred to him as the greatest American driver ever.
