Why they might be annoying:

Jay Bennett was fired from the band following repeated clashes with Tweedy over the final mix for 'Yankee Foxtrot Hotel.'
Reprise Records refused to release 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,' feeling it was uncommercial.
They paid Reprise, a division of Time-Warner, $50,000 for the master tapes to 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' only to end up releasing the album on Nonesuch Records, another division of Time-Warner.
The band was sued by Irdial-Disc for using an unauthorized sample of a numbers station from 'The Conet Project.'
The band pulled out of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival when Tweedy entered rehab for addiction to painkillers for migraines (2004).
In addition to migraines, Tweedy suffers from clinical depression and panic attacks.

Why they might not be annoying:

They defered most of their royalties for the double album 'Being There' so it could be released at a single-album price.
They and Billy Bragg were asked by Woody Guthrie's daughter Nora to write the music for Woody's unfinished songs.
Despite Reprise's doubts about the record's commercial viability, 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' hit #13 and was certified gold.
Reprise CEO Gary Briggs said, 'One of the most embarrassing moments in my career at Warner Brothers was the day they let Wilco go.'
Rolling Stone magazine chose Cline as one of their 'Top 20 New Guitar Gods.'
Although recording of 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' was completed by June of 2001, several lyrics seem eerily prophetic about the 9/11 attacks.
