U.S. Congressman

The Resume

    (May 16, 1929-October 27, 2019)
    Born in Highland Park, Michigan
    Represents Michigan's 14th District (1965-2017)
    Democrat
Founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus
Wrote 'What Went Wrong in Ohio' (2005) and 'The Constitution in Crisis: The Downing Street Minutes and Deception, Manipulation, Torture, Retributions and Cover-Ups in the Iraq War' (2006)
Blogs for the Huffington Post, Daily Kos and Democratic Underground
House Ethics Committee opened an investigation regarding sexual misconduct allegations (November 21, 2017)

Why he might be annoying:

He is considered one of the most liberal members of Congress.
He joined Charles Rangel in proposing a resumption of the draft during the Iraq war.
He 'accepted responsibility' for possible House ethics rules violations after aides alleged that he used staffers to babysit and chauffeur his children (2006).
At a 2006 fundraiser, he said that if the Democrats took Congress, he would be head of the Judiciary Committee and could launch impeachment procedings against George W. Bush.
After the Democrats won a majority in Congress, he backed off, calling for censure instead.
In 'Fahrenheit 9/11' he admitted that members of Congress 'don't read most of the bills.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He received combat and merit citations while serving with the Army Corps of Engineers in the Korean War.
He introduced the first bill to make Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday a national holiday.
He was #13 on Nixon's original enemies list.
He said that Fox News showed a 'complete disregard for accuracy' after they ran footage of him while reporting the indictment of William J. Jefferson.
After the Downing Street memo, revealing an agreement by Bush and Tony Blair to create conditions to justify a war with Iraq, failed to receive much attention in the US, he lamented, 'This should not be allowed to fall down the memory hole during wall-to-wall coverage of the Michael Jackson trial and a runaway bride.'
