The Resume

    (July 31, 1914-June 27, 1978)
    Born in Paris, France
Birth name is Josette Noelle Andree Claire Dagory
Portrayed Belle in the original 'La Belle et La Bete (Beauty and the Beast)' (1946)
Acted in 'The Merry Monarch,' 'Lucrezia Borgia,' 'L'homme du jour,' 'Accord final,' and 'Les Parents Terribles'

Why she might be annoying:

She began her career at the age of three.
She had affairs with Marcel Pagnol and Paul Morand.
She claimed to have married and divorced Pagnol, but no sources corroborate this.
She is given little to do in the classic 'La Belle et La Bete' other than 'look beautiful' opposite Jean Marais' Beast (it remains her best remembered role).
Claims to the effect that she was an model for Disney's own Belle in the 1991 version were shot down by the cartoon's own screenwriter Linda Woolverton, who deliberately avoided watching the Cocteau film (she chose Katharine Hepburn for a model instead).

Why she might not be annoying:

She was a dancer in the Paris Opera.
She was secretly active with the French resistance during World War II.
She met her husband (famed chemist Maurice Solvay) helping to shelter him from the Gestapo after partisans gave him her address.
She quit films at the age of thirty-six to marry Solvay and they remained together until his death in 1960.
She and Solvay met a Tahitian girl at while on a holiday and took her under their legal guardianship (she formally adopted the child after his death).
Her late husband bequeathed her several priceless collections of ancient art and furniture (most of which has either been sold or donated to the museums).
Her house later was converted into an embassy building by the government of Thailand (she sold it to them for 4.1 million francs).
Roger Ebert wrote of her performance: '[When she] first enters the Beast's domain, she seems to run dreamily a few feet above the floor. Later, her feet do not move at all, but she glides, as if drawn by a magnetic force.'
