    (August 7, 1954- )
    Born in Galveston, Texas
    US Naval intelligence analyst
Pleaded guilty to spying for Israel (1986)
Sentenced to life in prison with a recommendation against parole
    Granted Israeli citizenship (1995)
He was turned down by the CIA because his polygraph test indicated he was lying when he denied past drug use.
He got a job with the Navy because the CIA refused to pass along the info from their screening.
During his first year with the Navy, superiors twice recommended that his security clearance be revoked only to have the request slip through the cracks.
He stole over a million classified documents.
In addition to Israel, he may have passed information to South Africa and Pakistan.
He violated terms of his plea agreement by describing the classified material he passed to Israel in an interview with Wolf Blitzer.
Seven former defense secretaries wrote petitions urging that he be kept in prison for life and CIA Director George Tenet threatened to resign when Bill Clinton considered granting him clemency.
He was the target of anti-Semitic bullying growing up.
He cooperated with US counterintelligence to reduce his wife's sentence.
For a decade, Israeli intelligence claimed he worked for a rogue operation until Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted he was a sanctioned agent (1998).
Many in Israel consider him a hero.
The Jerusalem City Council renamed a square near the prime minister's residence 'Freedom for Jonathan Pollard Square.'
