The Resume

    (January 16, 1938-January 20, 2000)
    Born in Denver, Colorado
Pitcher for the San Francisco Giants (1963-69), San Diego Padres (1970), New York Mets (1970), and Atlanta Braves (1971)

Why he might be annoying:

He gave up the only grand slam of Bob Uecker's career.
He is remembered less for his pitching than his hitting, which was abominable even by the low standards expected of pitchers.
His .029 career batting average is the lowest for any Major League player with at least 100 at bats (6 hits in 209 at bats).
He was a one-man argument for bringing the designated hitter to the National League.

Why he might not be annoying:

His first Major League hit was also his first RBI (May 21, 1965).
He noted 'I must have been doing something right' to have lasted long enough to rack up over 200 at bats.
Giants' catcher Tom Haller said, 'He was the kind of guy who could throw every day. That was his greatest asset -- he never came up with a sore arm and he could pitch in any situation.'
