    (February 24, 1909-July 4, 1971)
    Born in Sauk City, Wisconsin
    Author and editor
    Coined the term 'Cthulhu Mythos'
Best known for his horror writings
Earned a BA from the University of Wisconsin
Founder of Arkham House Publishing and literary editor of The Capitol Times from 1941 to 1960
Long time friend and correspondent of H.P. Lovecraft
Before and after his death and decidedly without permission, he took old fragments and story outlines of Lovecraft's, filled them out and published them as collaborations between himself and Lovecraft.
In his Mythos stories, the devoutly Catholic Derleth presented the war between the Elder Gods and the Great Old Ones as a black and white, good versus evil conflict, with the Elder Gods as good guys protecting humanity as opposed the amoral conflict the atheistic Lovecraft imagined.
He's far more known for his editing and publishing than his own writings.
His best known works are collaborations with other authors or imitations/ripoffs of their works.
He probably saved H. P. Lovecraft and possibly his entire genre of work from obscurity.
He was a far better businessman/manager than contemporaries such as Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard or Clark Ashton Smith.
Though devoted to publishing/promoting his friends/fellow writers, his written output actually exceeded many of theirs!
He wrote over 100 books and over 150 short stories.
