Why he might be annoying:

His biographies of Elvis Presley and John Lennon took full advantage of the legal principle that you can't libel the dead.
For example, he claimed, without evidence, that Lennon solicited underage male prostitutes in Thailand.
The Washington Post described 'Elvis' as 'a nasty book, written in spectacularly execrable prose.'

He praised Lenny Bruce as a comedic genius.
He testified on Lennon's behalf when the album 'Two Virgins' was seized by US customs as obscene (1968).
In a 'Saturday Night Live' sketch, Phil Hartman portrayed Goldman as the trombone playing fifth Beatle who was fired from the group by Lennon at Elvis's urging.
