    (November 27, 1925-March 21, 1999)
Born in Bramley, England, United Kingdom
    Birth name was Ernest Wiseman
Half of the comedy duo of Morecambe and Wise
Starred in the British TV series 'Two of a Kind' (1961-68) and 'The Morecambe and Wise Show' (1968-83)
Appeared in the films 'The Intelligence Men' (1965), 'That Riviera Touch' (1966), 'The Magnificient Two' (1967) and 'Night Train to Murder' (1983)
He began performing in music halls as a child with his father, jointly billed as 'Bert Carson and His Little Wonder.'
As a teen, he was billed as England's Mickey Rooney.
He disliked being called the 'straight man' in the duo, preferring to call himself the 'song and dance man.'
Morecambe reportedly wanted to end the act but continued because he felt Wise could not cope without him.
He served in the Merchant Marine during WWII.
Morecambe and Wise's 1977 Christmas special was watched by 28 million viewers - half the population of Britain.
Critic Kenneth Tynan praised his performances as 'unselfish, ebullient and indispensable.'
He was a long time participant in the 'Keep Britain Tidy' campaign.
His catchphrase 'the play what I wrote' inspired a long-running West End farce of the same name.
