Why he might be annoying:

He is quite the devout Christian.
He wrote Bible verses in his eye black (the NCAA later banned such messages).
The fact he played high school football while homeschooled brought a lot of controversy.
He received attention for an ad he and his mother appeared in during Super Bowl XLIV for the pro-life group Focus on the Family. As it turned out, the abortion issue was not even mentioned in the ad, contrary to what some people believed was going to happen.
It has been common for TV commentators to suck up to him.
When he was drafted by the Denver Broncos, it came as a big surprise as they already acquired fellow quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn within the past year. Not to mention that a couple of quarterbacks projected to be picked ahead of him were still available.
He inspired the online craze known as 'Tebowing' where a person kneels down to pray regardless of what other people are doing around them (October 2011).

Why he might not be annoying:

His mother suffered a life-threatening infection while she was pregnant with him and decided not to get an abortion as her doctor recommended.
He thrived as a high school quarterback despite being homeschooled.
He set the SEC record for most career rushing touchdowns with 53, passing Herschel Walker in 2009.
He was the first Heisman Trophy winner who happened to be a college sophomore.
While still a college athlete, he was named to ESPN's Mount Rushmore of Florida's four greatest sports figures, joining Dan Marino, Don Shula and Bobby Bowden.
He has a foundation in his name which helps children in need, among others.
