    (August 18, 1939-March 4, 2011)
    Born in Port Arthur, Texas
Birth name was John Preston Courville
Recorded the singles 'Running Bear' (1959) 'Cradle of Love' (1960)and 'Feel So Fine' (1960)
His first recording session went so disastrously the results were never even considered for release.
Several years after his biggest hit, he recorded (without commercial success) the sequel 'Running Bear '65.'
He became a regular at Dick Clark's American Bandstand Theater in Branson.
The faux-Indian 'Oom-pah-pah' chant on 'Running Bear' inspired the even more obnoxious 'Ooga-Chaka' chant on Blue Swede's 'Hooked on a Feeling.'
He was discovered by J.P. 'The Big Bopper' Richardson.
The backing vocals on 'Running Bear' were performed by Richardson and country legend George Jones.
'Running Bear' was a #1 hit in both the US and Britain and sold over a million singles.
He was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
