Why he might be annoying
It is unclear how many books of 'The Shadow' series he wrote due to his and other writers of the series all using the same pen name, Maxwell Grant.
He practiced occultism, holding séances to contact Harry Houdini, who had spent his career exposing séances as fraudulent.
He started out as a newspaper reporter and a crossword puzzle designer.
Why he might not be annoying
Although the exact figure is unclear, he wrote at least 282, and possibly over 300, of 'The Shadow' books between 1931 and 1949.
He also wrote over 100 other books on such varied subjects as: magic, psychic phenomena, games, and true crime stories.
He was a ghost writer for Harry Houdini and Harry Blackstone.
With at least 400 full length books to his credit, his output was at times staggering. At his best he was completing a novel every two weeks at a rate of an estimated 10,000 words per day.
Five movies and two TV series have been based on 'The Shadow.'
