Why he might be annoying:

    His script for 'Bonnie and Clyde' was rejected by 20 directors before it was finally produced.
    He had to trap Dustin Hoffman in a locked room to talk him into starring in 'Kramer Vs. Kramer.'
    He cast Sally Field in the role that prompted her 'You like me -you really like me!' Oscar speech.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He won three Academy Awards.
    He finally talked Hoffman into doing 'Kramer Vs. Kramer' by saying he wanted to make the film 'for our children.'
    His film 'Places in the Heart' was based on his grandmother's experiences in the depression.
