The Resume

    (1837-June 25, 1876)
    Born in Wyoming
    Birth name was Michel
Native American name was Kar-pash (or Kar-paysh, or Kape)
Son of a French Canadian fur trapper father and a Santee Sioux mother
Scout for Gen. George Armstrong Custer
Killed in the Battle of the Little Bighorn at age 39
Part of his skull discovered and identified in a mass grave near the battle site (1984)

Why he might be annoying:

His last name has the various spellings of 'Bouyer,' 'Bowyer,' 'Buoyer' or 'Buazer' (and in Creole 'Boye').
He was a flamboyant dresser, which included his favorite headdress adorned with two stuffed woodpeckers (see picture).
His half-brother John was hanged in 1871 for killing an Army scout, the first legal execution in Wyoming.
He gave away his possessions before the Battle of Little Big Horn because he didn't think he'd make it out alive.
This in turn infuriated Custer, who accused him of being a fatalist (though an ACCURATE fatalist).
A 1985 book entitled 'Sixty-Six Years in Custer's Shadow' suggested he led Custer into a trap for slaughter, though it was discredited.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father was killed by Indians while trapping (1863).
He was at various times employed by both the Army and the Crow Agency as a hunter/trader, escort for the Northern Pacific Railroad survey team, guide, interpreter, laborer and scout.
He was so revered by the Indians that Sitting Bull offered a 100 pony bounty on his head.
Seeing how large the Indian village they were to attack was, he pleaded with Custer to wait for reinforcements, to no avail.
After his death, a close friend took in his widow and children, later marrying her and adopting his kids.
Civil War and Indian Wars hero Gen. John Gibbon called him 'next to Jim Bridger, the best guide in the country.'
