Why he might be annoying:

Presumably Mart is short for Martin?
He helped Robert Wagner make a comeback.
As a playwright, he was basically a one-hit wonder.
Natalie Wood gifted him with psychoanalysis for his birthday.
He went broke and fell into depression in the mid-1960s after several of his scripts were turned down.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was openly gay.
He met Natalie Wood while working on the set of 'Splendor in the Grass.' Natalie hired him after she learned he would be out of work after filming concluded.
He remained a lifelong friend to Natalie, who made him godfather to her daughter.
'Boys in the Band' broke ground as one of the first plays to depict gay life in America.
He wrote the screenplay and produced the film version of 'The Boys in the Band,' which was directed by William Friedkin.
