The Resume
(October 5, 1949-April 28, 1988)
Birth name was Louis Stevenson
Best known for his song 'My Maria'
Why he might be annoying
The 'B.W.' stood for 'Buckwheat.'
He was a one hit wonder.
He was primarily a country singer, but 'My Maria' didn't even make it onto the country charts.
He's another example of an artist who produced only one major hit and still had a record company issue a greatest hits album. In this case it was 'The Very Best of B. W. Stevenson.'
He tried 7 more years to achieve chart success, failed, then called it a career at age 30 (1980).
Why he might not be annoying
'My Maria' was a Top 10 pop smash (September 1973).
He wrote the Top 10 song 'Shambala' for Three Dog Night. (1973)
He was part of the premiere PBS TV live concert series 'Austin City Limits' along with The
Charlie Daniels Band and Asleep At The Wheel (January 1976).
He sang back-up vocals for Willie Nelson's album 'The Troublemaker' (1976).
He died shortly after undergoing heart surgery at age 38 (April 1988).
