U.S. President

The Resume

    (April 27, 1822-July 23, 1885)
18th President of the United States (1869-1877)
Birth name was Hiram Ulysses Grant
Fought in the Mexican War as a Quartermaster (1846-1848)
Appointed a Colonel of the 21st Illinois Infantry (June 17, 1861)
Appointed Brigadier General (August 17, 1861)
Received commission as Lieutenant General from President Lincoln and was appointed General in Chief of all U.S. armies (March 9, 1864)
He is on the fifty dollar bill

Why he might be annoying:

It is frequently said that Grant's middle name was 'Simpson.' It was not. His middle name was 'Ulysses' and he admitted that the 'S' in his name stood for nothing.
In his early life he apparently drank to excess, particularly when separated from his wife and sons in 1852-1854.
He entered the Real Estate business with his wifes cousin, proved incapable of collecting rents and was frequently late to work.
At the battle of Cold Harbor, he made the fatal blunder of under-estimating the amount of Confederate soldiers. Grant lost 7,000 Union men in an hour.
    He suffered from prolonged depression.
He chain smoked over 100,000 cigarettes in his lifetime, eventually giving him throat cancer.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the Union's best General during the Civil War.
He was present at The Battle of Belmont, Fort Donelson, The Battle of Shiloh, Vicksburg, The Battle of Chattanooga, Battle of the Wilderness, The Spottsylvania campaign, and The Battle of Cold Harbor.
The Confederate General Lee surrendered to The Union General Grant in Appomattox, Virginia. It was Grant's great hour showcasing his delicacy and decency.
Grant refused to be sent to Mexico (after the Civil War) by President Andrew Johnson, a wily and jealous man who wanted the popular General out of the way.
He suffered a serious injury to his hip while slipping on the pavement outside his home. He was bedridden for weeks and walked with crutches or a cane for the rest of his life (1883).
He was diagnosed with throat cancer. The cancer spreads and completely debilitated him. He was able to eat only liquid food in small portions (1884).
