Attorney

The Resume

Trial attorney, television legal analyst, and adjunct law professor
    Raised in Galveston, Texas
Principal representative of The Pressley Firm PLLC, based in Washington, D.C.
Former prosecutor and professor at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University
Served as assistant Attorney General for the District of Columbia
Served on the U. S. Congressional staffs of Rep. Jack Brooks and Rep. Charlie Wilson
Host of the weekly webcast radio show, 'Breathe Through It with Monique Pressley'; also hosts the radio show 'Breathe Through It'
Came to national attention after being hired to represent comedian Bill Cosby in the face of a growing number of sexual assault allegations, most of them involving Quaalude usage (Jul. 24, 2015)
Had previously made sporadic appearances as a legal analyst for Good Morning America, ‘The Situation Room,’ ‘NewsOne Now,’ and ‘Inside Edition’

Why she might be annoying:

Her last name sounds like that of a Rock & Roll legend with a cult following.
When prosecution attorney Gloria Allred challenged her to a debate over Cosby's innocence, her response was curt to the point of scolding, saying 'We as attorneys do what attorneys do. We're not in high school. We don't debate. We're not politicians running for office.'
She founded her own ministry, which she named after herself.
The hiring of a black female attorney has been called a 'strategic' move by skeptics and even supporters (designed to help in the areas where Bill's popularity suffered the most - the black community and women, in general).
She probably signed on with the Cosby team to promote herself and garner publicity (the fact that she was probably paid handsomely doesn't hurt either).
She can come off as smug in interviews while defending Cosby, probably aware that her defense of an alleged 'serial rapist' isn't going to win her many fans.
She dismissed the growing number of allegations against him by arguing that the 'sheer volume or number of people saying the same thing, does not make it true.'
She unsuccessfully defended the District of Columbia against a class-action lawsuit stemming from the 2002 mass arrest of individuals in Pershing Park near the White House.
She later referenced the case when discussing the growing allegations against Cosby, saying 'You'll have some people who will come forward and join the bandwagon. If you know the police department messed up in a certain park on a certain day, you'll have 30 people who'll come forward to cash in who weren't even there, who were at lunch across the street, who were looking from the window.'
She went after DA Kevin Steele after he announced charges against Bill Cosby, accusing him of not being interested in 'effectuating justice' and instead being interested in the politics of the situation.
Global economist and writer, Stephen Fevrier, was just one of many social media users who damned her with faint praise, tweeting out the following: '#moniquepressley is a capable mind; too bad she's defending the indefensible.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She was a high school debating team champ.
As an adjunct professor at Howard University, she led a team of law students to victory in a nation-wide mock-trial competition; becoming the first historically all-black college to do so (and beating the reigning champion team at Harvard).
She was a vocal supporter for the call to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina state house in 2015.
In terms of looks, let's just say she wouldn't look out of place on the cover of Ebony.
She is well-acquainted with the Trayvon Martin-Michael Brown family prosecutor, Benjamin Crump, and has had him as a guest on her program several times.
She struck even Bill Cosby's detractors as capable, with her winning mixture of elegant poise and no-nonsense grittiness.
As her news segments sparring with TV pundits continued to go viral, many members of the black community admitted to experiencing conflicted emotions of both pride and shame that they would feel compelled to cheer on someone defending an alleged rapist.
For example, Charlamagne Tha God tweeted: 'I don't know if Bill Cosby is guilty or not but I know his attorney Monique Pressley is a BEAST. I love hearing her speak.'
Tom Joyner, after having her as a guest on his morning show, said 'I never heard of you before this, but just listening to you just now, I think Bill Cosby has chosen a very good attorney.'
She helped develop a three-month health and wellness program for women which 'provides practical health and wellness information through the teachings of experts in the field, biblical teachings related to good health and diet, and an exercise component facilitated by certified fitness trainers.'
If the whole 'defending the alleged decades long serial rapist comedian' thing doesn't work out, maybe should could hop onto the 'Trump Train' and keep Omarosa and Katrina Pierson company as a spokesperson (if only to push feminists and Black Twitter completely over the edge).
