U.S. Congressman

The Resume

    (May 31, 1948- )
    Born in Riverside, California
Served during the Vietnam War in the 173rd Airborne Brigade and the 75th Ranger Regiment
Republican Congressman from California (January 1981-January 2009)
Chaired the House Armed Services Committee (2002-2006)
Announced 2008 White House bid (October 30, 2006)
Congressional district includes San Diego's east side suburbs

Why he might be annoying:

The Guantanamo Bay scandal occurred while he was committee chair.
His response? He read the cafeteria menu to rebuke prisoner treatment claims.
His district has been heavily gerrymandered since his 1981 election.
Despite being conservative, he voted for No Child Left Behind and Medicare Part D.
He is mistaken for a protectionist on free trade.
Like most Republicans, he is strongly pro-life and even introduced pro-life legislation.
He proposed banning military women from most combat jobs.
He is accused of fudging about his property size for tax purposes (October 2006).
He took money from Brent Wilkes, who has ties to Randy 'Duke' Cunningham.
He is a strong hawk on the 2003 Iraq War.
He had little to no chance of winning the GOP bid for the 2008 White House.
He is NOT the Duncan Hunter who wrote the novel 'A Martian Poet in Siberia.'
His hair looks pretty thick and goofy — toupee, perhaps?

Why he might not be annoying:

He definitely served in Vietnam, so you can't really call him a chickenhawk.
His son, Duncan Duane Hunter, served in Iraq.
He was the first person to publicly announce his 2008 White House bid.
He gave free legal advice to poor people before entering politics.
He lost his home in the 2003 Cedar Fire.
He joked about the property tax issue as well.
He manages to get a lot of Hispanic and Democratic votes in his district.
He called out the Defense Logistic Agency's spending — over USD$22,000 on a tiny fridge!
He admitted to one instance of prisoner-guard-on-prisoner contact at Guantanamo.
He worked his way through law school, even on the GI Bill.
He thinks China is screwing the U.S. on trade.
He is willing to take phone calls over the lack of body armor for our military.
He is anti-amnesty on illegal immigration.
His plan out of Iraq? Putting the Iraqi troops in charge of security.
He built the border fence in San Diego!
