Biblical Characters
It’s unclear if they are persons, monsters, tribes or nations.
To complicate matters further, Gog might be a king and Magog may be his kingdom.
They may be the descendants of Noah's wicked grandsons.
They were said to be the enemies of Israel in the Book of Ezekiel and Satan’s allies in Revelation.
They were later identified with a huge variety of allegedly evil entities, including the Goths, Mongols, Napoleon, Russia, the US, Europe, modern Israel, Russia, communism and capitalism.
Considering their brief, vague mention in the Old Testament, their influence on Eurasian culture has been huge.
They appeared as countries on world maps up until 1750.
Although usually presented as wicked, they act as London’s protectors in British folklore.
They have been depicted as friendly giants in London’s Lord Mayor’s Show for centuries.
The Irish traditionally regard them as their ancestors.
