TV Reality Show Contestant

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He’s very specific about his height: 6 ft ½ inch. Not 6 ½ feet.
His ‘lazy hands’ became an issue at the unretouched photo shoot (the price of American sign language).
Until the Simply Be ad campaign challenge, he was seen as lacking any personality or sex appeal.
As time passed at the Top Model digs – as Lacey correctly noted – his frustration at being in the midst of house arguments intensified.
During the go-see in which he had chosen DeLanie as his partner, she left one stop without her purse and her portfolio — requiring two returns.
For the pool party photo challenge, he decided to jump as high as possible in the hopes of granting extra time to the photographer (it led to the inverse effect).
At the runway walk in the finale, he admitted to being unable to move in sync with the tempo of the live musical performance.
Not booked to any agencies (at the time of shooting)? You couldn’t tell.
Because of his ‘condition,’ many viewers predicted he would get the whiny sob story of the season.

Why he might not be annoying:

He originally planned to be a math teacher; then he wound up doing indie film work.
Within the Next Top Model community, his victory was seen as a satisfying end to a heavily drawn-out season and poorly handled brand (or is it?).
When his parents divorced, his mother – also deaf – raised him and his brothers almost singlehandedly.
When he was discovered on his Insta account, Next Top Model scouts didn’t yet realize he was deaf.
Yu Tsai called him a ‘listener’ — one of the few instances of applause at the photo shoot for the hashtag layout.
When other contestants were going bonkers over their makeovers, he stated it was only hair… and that he didn’t go bonkers over being deaf.
In the makeover episode, he received only a simple clean-up.
He was the first contestant of the season to win a challenge and first callout in the same episode (‘Simply Be Heard’ ad campaign and possessed photo shoot).
An ex-girlfriend (and fellow deaf-mute) came to visit the Top Model digs for the ‘night of Signing & Dining’ indicated in the note left him in the Tyra Suite.
Like Mame, he booked every single one of his go-sees (three to her four) — but he returned on time.
At the faux-magazine cover challenge, he was referred to as a ‘ladies’ man’ (‘Nyle: Breaking the sound barrier’) … and went on to a no-contest win!
Lacey’s confessional at the final runway walk — in full feathery costume: ‘Lacey… says… good… luck… Nyle.’ Spoken and signed!
He was very rarely in the thick of any drama during the season.
