He united Upper and Lower Egypt to form one of the ancient world's greatest kingdoms.
He dammed part of the Nile to found the strategically located capital Memphis.
He established diplomatic and commercial ties with Phoenicia.
Greek historian Diodorus credits him for creating Egypt's laws and religious cults.
Roman author Pliny claims (rather extravagantly) he invented writing.
The nation he founded and its pharaonic government lasted for 3000 years.
