    Founded the Tempo Playhouse (1953)
    Wrote the plays 'The Moon Dreamers,' 'Schubert's Last Serenade,' 'Gloria and Esperanza,' 'Monday on the Way to Mercury Island,' 'The Nothing Kid' and 'Angelo's Wedding'

Why she might be annoying:

    She was married and divorced twice.
    In films, she was typecast as Italian mothers.
    When the Circle Repertory Company presented her play 'Angelo's Wedding,' she went on stage at the beginning of Act III to urge the audience to leave, then attacked an intern and a house manager who tried to remove her from the stage (1985).

Why she might not be annoying:

    She introduced the plays of Jean Genet and Eugene Ionesco to American audiences.
    She won the first Obie (the off-Broadway equivalent of the Tonys) for Best Actress (1955).
    She won a triple Obie as actress, writer and director for 'Gloria and Esperanza' (1969).
    Sidney Lumet called her 'one of the best actresses we've ever had in this country.'
