    She married John Marion Fox at sixteen.

    For a time, she lived in her sister, Constance Bennett's shadow.

    She was thought to be the most likely choice to play Scarlet O'Hara in 'Gone With the Wind (1939),' but the public forgot about her when Paulette Goddard tested.
    But both she and Paulette Goddard were beat out for Scarlet O'Hara by Vivien Leigh.
    Filming on 'She Wanted a Millionaire,' was interrupted when Joan fell from a horse and broke her leg (1932).
    She is credited with appearing in 'Inn of the Damned' but she wasn't in that film (1974).
    Her third husband, Walter Wanger, shot and wounded Jennings Lang, her agent, claiming he was trying to 'Steal her' from him.

    She sang songs with her own voice and was never dubbed.
