    (April 4, 1966-March 8, 2011)
    Born in Honolulu, Hawaii
Bassist for Alice in Chains and Sun Red Sun
Alice in Chains CDs include ‘We Die Young (1990),’ ‘Dirt (1992),’ ‘Music Bank (1999)’ and ‘The Essential Alice in Chains (2006)’
Appeared on Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House (2010)
Died in Salt Lake City at age 44
Obviously, he mixed drugs and partying.
Hours before his death, he was reported mixing methadone and anxiety medication by a roomie.
He tried to encourage a sickly Layne Staley, down to 89 pounds on a 6 ft 1 frame, to go to the hospital, but stormed out following an argument (obviously he failed).
Staley’s death would have a significant impact on his own sobriety.
While the band – particularly Staley – mentioned he wasn’t too interested in intense touring and promotion, he stated he was kicked out because of his addiction (loosely indicated in ‘Misery, Crack Pipes, and Gothic Main Lines’).
His Sober House antics, particularly around housemother Jennifer Gimenez, made for unintentional hilarity.
By his next appearance on Celebrity Rehab – featuring a new crop of druggies – he appeared to have his act together.
Former bandmate Jerry Cantrell and some 400 others attended his private funeral in Seattle.
