Her first attempts at film acting were panned by critics.
Director Joseph Mankiewicz didn't like her.
Her singing voice was always dubbed when she appeared in musicals.
She was not always faithful to her husband.
She and her husband almost divorced, but reconciled (1956).
Despite remaining married to one another, the couple lived separately until her husband's death (2003).

During World War II, her amount of fan mail was second only to Betty Grable.
She claimed that her husband was sometimes abusive.
She was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in 'Pinky.'
She outlived two of her children.
