    His hands were too small to throw a proper curveball.
    He missed eight games after injuring himself while picking up his suitcase (1884).
    He is the only pitcher to win 20 or more games in at least ten seasons without ever winning a pennant.
    He was baseball's first known juicer: newspapers reported that he drank an elixir containing monkey testosterone before a game (1889).
