Why he might be annoying:

Although signed as a jazz singer, Mitch Miller worked with him and realized his career was in singing soft ballads.
It took twenty-one years for his second #1 hit 'Too Much, Too Little, Too Late' (with Deniece Williams).
His audience is primarily elderly ladies.
    He plays golf, daily.

Why he might not be annoying:

When he was eight, his father bought him a piano that was too big to fit through the door, so he spent that evening taking the piano apart and reassembling it in the house.

He excelled in high jump and hurdles.
    He played high school basketball.
At San Francisco State College, he set the college's high jump record at 6'5½.
Newspapers heralded him as one of the best all-around college athletes in San Francisco.
George Avakian of Columbia Records saw him perform and telegrammed the company: 'Have found phenomenal 19 year old boy who could go all the way. Send blank contracts.'
He was offered a position on the US 1956 Olympics trials team, but turned it down to pursue his singing career.
His song 'Chances Are' hit #1.
In 1958, he was one of the first, if not the first, to put out a Greatest Hits album which is now done by almost all noted artists.
'Johnny's Greatest Hits' remained on Billboard's Top Albums chart for nearly ten years - 490 continuous weeks.
He was only one of five artists to have top 40 hits in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.
He performed for the President of Liberia, British Royalty, Prime Minister of Japan and Presidents Reagan, Bush, Sr. and Clinton.
