    (April 16, 1912-May 8, 1996)
Born in New York, New York
    Well-known illustrator of children's books
Books illustrated by him include 'Charlotte's Web,' 'Stuart Little', 'The Cricket in Times Square' and 'The Little House on the Prairie' series by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Why he might be annoying:

He said he hated to work and only did it out of necessity.
He wrote a children's book about the marriage of a white rabbit to a black rabbit which was seized upon by racists (it was the fifties) as an attempt to brainwash children into accepting integration.
Some of his work has been eclipsed by movie/TV versions of books he illustrated.
He never won a major award for his work.

Why he might not be annoying:

His distinctive b & w pencil drawings and beautiful cover illustrations brought to life some of the most loved children's books of all time.
In addition to his illustrating other writer's books, he was a very good author in his own right.
He and his wife had five children.
He moved around quite a bit growing up, living in Canada, England and France.
He was an ambulance driver during WWII.
