    (September 2, 1917-July 26, 1995)
    Born in Prainha, Brazil
    Classical/jazz/bossa nova guitarist
Recorded the albums 'Brazilliance Vols. 1 and 2,' 'Viva Bossa Nova,' 'Ole! Bossa Nova,' 'Guitar from Impanema,' 'Duets with the Spanish Guitar,' 'Bach Is Beautiful,' 'Danzas!,' 'Latin Odyssey,' 'Virtuoso Guitar,' 'Brazilian Soul' and 'Sammy Davis, Jr., Sings and Laurindo Almeida Plays'
    Won 5 Grammys
His full name is the unwieldly Laurindo Jose de Araujo Almeida Nobrega Neto.
When he first moved to Rio, he slept on park benches until he landed a radio gig.
As a pioneer of the bossa nova, he was overshadowed by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto.
As Hollywood's leading studio guitarist in the 50s and 60s, his playing appeared in hundreds of films, from 'The Ten Commandments' to 'The Godfather.' ('I just got a list from the union of all the films that I've played in and there were names on that list that I didn't even know I had done.')
He was the first musician to win Grammys for both jazz and classical music.
He completed his last CD two weeks before his death from leukemia.
