The Resume

    (December 3, 1755-July 9, 1828)
    Born in Saunderstown, Rhode Island
    Portrait artist
Painted the first six US Presidents
Most famous painting was the Athenaeum portrait of George Washington

Why he might be annoying:

He left his best-known painting unfinished so he could keep it to make and sell copies.
Despite earning large commissions, he was constantly in financial trouble.
He died in debt and was buried in an unmarked grave.
When his relatives recovered financially and planned to move his body to the family cemetery in Newport, they could not find the spot where he had been buried.

Why he might not be annoying:

His portraits were praised for their naturalness and vitality.
John Adams wrote, 'I should like to sit for Stuart from the first of January to the last of December, for he lets me do just what I please, and keeps me constantly amused by his conversation.'
The image of Washington on the dollar bill is based on his Athenaeum portrait.
