    Birth name was Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson
    Wrote 'Treasure Island (1883),' 'A Child's Garden of Verses (1885),' 'Kidnapped (1886)' and 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886)'
    He changed his middle name from 'Lewis' to 'Louis' so it would sound French rather than Scottish.
    He was famous for his fancy clothes and velvet coat.
    He had a pet donkey he called 'Modestine.'
    He suffered from tuberculosis his whole life.
    He was kind.
    Despite his ill health, he loved to travel.
    He moved to Samoa, where he was so popular with the islanders that they named him 'Tusitala' (official tribe storyteller).
    He wrote many articles criticizing Europe's exploitation of its colonial territories and people.
    He died very suddenly of a stroke at age 44.
    He said: 'Books are good enough in their own way, but they are a poor substitute for life.'
