    Cloned in Seoul, South Korea
    First successfully cloned dog
Announced to the world one day after it turned 100 days old (August 3, 2005)
Cloned from genetic material from an Afghan hound's ear
Cloned by team of scientists under Prof. Hwang Woo-suk
He is a clone of an Afghan hound, a less intelligent breed of dog that is typically unfriendly and irritable to humans.
His name stands for 'Seoul National University puppy' and rhymes with puppy.
He freaks people out, since dogs are physiologically very close to humans.
Companies are already looking into using the science behind it to exploit pet owners who wish to clone their former dog.
1,095 cloned embryos were implanted into surrogate mothers. Only three pregnancies resulted.
Of the three, one was miscarried, one died of pneumonia 22 days after birth and only Snuppy, out of a potential 1,095, survived.
Given the track record of cancer and genetic diseases associated with clones, He probably won't live very long.
Ironically, since human stem cell research is banned, he might help prolong the lives of dogs, but not humans.
The scientists behind his creation did not seek any commercial gain in their discovery.
As dogs get many of the same diseases as humans, it furthers the science of stem cell research enormously.
He looks and behaves like a normal Afghan pup.
He was called 'totally adorable' by Hwang Woo-suk.
He is a huge leap in science, with many scientists refusing to clone a dog prior to this point because of his complexity.
He may help unlock the secrets to many of mankind's worst diseases.
