Also wrote sarabandes, nocturnes, waltzes and ‘gnossiennes' for the piano

He pointlessly changed his name from ‘Eric' to ‘Erik.'
He had a weird sense of humor.
He called himself a ‘gymnopedist,' ‘phonometrograph' or ‘phonometrician' rather than a composer.
He gave his works titles like 'Driveling Preludes (For a Dog)' and ‘Dried-Up Embryos.'
He included bizarre instructions in his sheet music, such as ‘Open your head' and ‘Here comes the lantern.'
One critic wrote: ‘It was actually Satie who invented the concept of Muzak.'
He refused to let anyone into his apartment.
He created his own odd religion.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was extremely experimental for his time.
His ideas influenced Claude Debussy, John Cage, and even modern ambient music.
He was good at calligraphy.
He didn't care about money.
He was friends with Pablo Picasso.
